Our Mission and Goals
In reviewing existing overseas agencies and programs, we concluded that the ORIA'S humanitarian efforts could be most effective by concentrating on raising funds to support already existing initiatives. As a result, we have been able to structure the ORIA Charitable Fund so as to minimize operating expenses, guaranteeing that close to 100% of the donations we collect can be sent overseas.
The Programs We Support
Although we will continue to support the needs of children across the globe when disasters strike, our focus will be to support on-going non-governmental programs aimed at improving the health, welfare and economic status of needy children and their families in major carpet weaving districts around the world. The Executive Board of the ORIA Charitable Fund will evaluate and monitor these programs to identify where funds can be used most effectively.
An example of the type of organization we support is Care & Fair, a ten-year-old organization with over 450 contributing members which operates in all three ‘target’ regions. In the rural areas of India’s carpet belt, for example, they run 16 schools as well as seven healthcare centers and a hospital for families of local rug weavers.
